Featured DJ Profile
Derrick Bostrom
"C’mon! Live a Little!" host Derrick Bostrom gained notoriety as the drummer and founding member of the legendary U.S. band the Meat Puppets. One of the longest-lasting bands from the 1980s indie scene, the Meat Puppets released 10 albums, including 1994’s certified gold "Too High To Die" featuring the hit "Backwater," which can still be heard on classic rock stations to this day. The band was also featured on Nirvana's best-selling "Unplugged" album, which contained three Meat Puppets songs.
The Dudsome Brothers
MTV--His opponent may be trying to brand him as a celebrity, but Barack Obama isn't the biggest star in his own daughters' eyes. When Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Denver on Monday night after their mom Michelle's speech, they had no idea their dad was going to be beamed in live via satellite. When Mrs. Obama told the girls she had a surprise for them, the potential first lady was pretty surprised at the response. "Is it the Jonas Brothers?!" Malia asked.
Ferrante & Teicher Cookin' the Keys on the Ernie Kovacs Show
"Oye Negra" has NEVER been as jaw-droppingly hot as this.

Pablo Beltran Ruiz R.I.P.
The Sociedade de Autores y Compositors de Mexico, the Spanish affiliate to ASCAP, is reporting the passing of their member, bandleader and composer Pablo Beltran Ruiz, at age 93. Pablo Beltran Ruiz was little known outside of his native country. The same could have been said of his work, had it not been for a piece of music he composed 55 years ago. Originally written as a cha cha, "Quien Sera" was recorded by Pablo Beltran Ruiz and his orchestra in 1953.

Have you seen this guitar?
Nowlen, pictured here with the guitar, is a longtime friend of Brian Wilson and was a member of "The Survivors" - a group produced by Brian consisting of himself, his roommate Bob Norberg, their next door neighbor Nowlen, and Rich Alarian. Their single "Pamela Jean/After The Game" was released by Capitol Records in January of 1964.

Les Brown & The Super Sounds of Renown - “New Horizons”
Used to be, when a popular musical group fell from favor, they’d “reinvent” themselves, ditching their perishable old shtick in favor of whatever “sound” was currently in vogue. They’d take this route as long as they could before finally being put to pasture on the oldies circuit. Albums from this period would often have “today!” or “now!” in the title (eg. “Junior Samples NOW!”).
Zeenat Aman #2 - Chura Liya Hai Tum Ne
The clip is from the 1973 Bollywood classic "Yaadon Ki Baaraat" starring Zeenat Aman, from which my earlier screen capture was lifted ( http://luxuriamusic.com/blog/litlgrey/this-is-why-to-bollywood ). The song proved so popular that it wound up appearing on CD sampler after sampler only a few years ago, and subsequently it became the title of a Mumbai-produced flick in its own right.
